To add your LJPc hosting email address to the Gmail app on Android, tap your profile picture, choose Add another account, then Other and Personal (IMAP), and enter ljpc.email as both the incoming and the outgoing server. Your username is your full email address. A few minutes later your business mail sits next to your Gmail address in the same app, with the same folders you see in webmail and on your computer.

What you need

  • Your full email address, for example info@yourcompany.com.
  • The password of that email address. This is your mailbox password, not the password of your Google account or the customer portal.
  • The Gmail app, updated through the Google Play Store. Most Android phones and tablets already have it.

Not sure about your password? Sign in to webmail at ljpc.email first. If that works, your details are correct. Read more about webmail in LJPc webmail: how to sign in and use it.

How to add an IMAP account in the Gmail app

  1. Open the Gmail app and tap your profile picture in the search bar at the top right.
  2. Tap Add another account and choose Other. The other options are for Google and providers such as Outlook and Yahoo. For an address on your own domain, always pick Other.
  3. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  4. Choose Personal (IMAP).
  5. Enter the password of your email address and tap Next.
  6. You now see the incoming server settings. Check that your full email address is the username and enter ljpc.email as the server. If the app has filled in another name, such as mail.yourcompany.com, replace it. If the app asks for a port and security type, choose 993 and SSL/TLS. Tap Next.
  7. Next come the outgoing server settings. Use your full email address and password here too, enter ljpc.email as the server again and choose port 465 with SSL/TLS. Tap Next.
  8. Follow the last screens. There you choose whether you want notifications for new mail and enter the name recipients see on your messages, such as your own name or your company name.

Your account is now set up. Tap your profile picture at the top right to switch between your Gmail address and your business address.

Gmail app server settings

These are the details to enter in the Gmail app for an email address hosted with LJPc. They are the same for every domain.

SettingIncoming server (IMAP)Outgoing server (SMTP)
Serverljpc.emailljpc.email
Port993465 (or 587)
Security typeSSL/TLSSSL/TLS (with port 587: STARTTLS)
Usernameyour full email addressyour full email address
Passwordthe password of your email addressthe same password

Why does the app ask for a port and security type?

The port is the numbered entrance on the server that your app connects to. The security type decides how that connection is encrypted. The two belong together: ports 993 and 465 use SSL/TLS, port 587 uses STARTTLS. A combination that does not match means the app cannot connect. With the values in the table, your password and messages travel encrypted.

We recommend IMAP: your mail stays on our server and every device shows the same messages and folders. The difference with POP3, and the settings for your iPhone and computer, are in set up your email on your phone, tablet and computer.

Security or certificate warnings

During setup the Gmail app can show a warning such as Email security not guaranteed or Certificate not trusted. Google then offers to set the security type to None. Do not choose that: your password and mail would travel unencrypted.

Instead, check that both servers say exactly ljpc.email, with the ports from the table. Our certificate is valid for that name, so the app should not show a warning. A message like Certificate subject and hostname mismatch means the server name does not match the certificate. Usually your own domain name has been entered instead of ljpc.email.

Changed your password? Update it in the app

When you change the password of your email address, give the Gmail app the new password as well. Otherwise it keeps signing in with the old one.

  1. In the Gmail app, tap the menu at the top left and choose Settings.
  2. Tap your business email address.
  3. Under Server Settings, open Incoming settings and enter the new password.
  4. Do the same under Outgoing settings.

You set a new password yourself in the customer portal. The steps are in create an email address in the customer portal. If several devices keep trying an old password, our security can block your IP address for a while. How that works and how to solve it is explained in what is fail2ban.

Using several accounts in the Gmail app

The Gmail app is built for several addresses side by side. Tap your profile picture and your Gmail address, your business address and any other addresses are listed together. Google mentions a maximum of five email addresses. In the menu at the top left, All inboxes shows the mail of all your accounts in one place.

Each account keeps its own folders. For your business address the menu shows the folders of your mailbox with us, the same ones you see in webmail.

Change swipe actions in Gmail

When you swipe a message left or right in your inbox, the app performs a set action. You choose which one:

  1. Tap the menu at the top left and choose Settings.
  2. Tap General settings, then Swipe actions.
  3. Next to Right swipe or Left swipe, tap Change and pick the action that suits you.

Your business address works directly on the server through IMAP. Whatever you move or delete with a swipe is also moved or deleted in webmail and on your computer.

Gmail app not receiving or sending mail

  • Check webmail first. If the message is in webmail at ljpc.email, the app is the cause: pull down in your inbox to refresh and check the server settings. If it is not there either, it never reached your mailbox. The usual causes are in how to fix email problems.
  • "There was a problem securing the connection". Check the date and time on your phone. On public Wi-Fi, open your browser first: you often need to sign in there. Then check under Server Settings that ljpc.email is filled in everywhere.
  • Sending fails. Check that the outgoing server is ljpc.email with port 465 and SSL/TLS. If that does not work, choose port 587 with STARTTLS.
  • Your password is rejected. Try signing in to webmail. If that fails too, set a new password in the customer portal and enter it in the app.
  • The app is out of date. Google advises updating the Gmail app in the Play Store first when you see an error, because many errors are fixed in newer versions.

Remove an account from the Gmail app

  1. Tap your profile picture in the search bar at the top right.
  2. Tap Manage accounts on this device.
  3. Select your business email address and tap Remove to confirm.

Your mail stays on the server and your email address keeps working. You can still read your mail in webmail and on your other devices.

Samsung Email or Gmail on your computer

Using a Samsung Galaxy and prefer Samsung's own mail app? The steps are in set up email in Samsung Email. To see your business mail in Gmail on your computer as well, read set up email in Gmail: Google is ending mail fetching from other accounts there. In the Gmail app on Android, an IMAP account keeps working, according to Google's notice about Gmailify and POP.

What LJPc hosting takes care of

  • One server name for all your addresses: ljpc.email, with a valid certificate and encrypted connections for receiving and sending.
  • A spam filter on our mail servers. Incoming mail passes through it before it reaches your mailbox. That matters even more now that Google is ending Gmailify, which also filtered spam for accounts from other providers.
  • You can set your mailbox password yourself at any time in the customer portal.
