Using your own email address in Gmail: what still works

Published on November 4, 2026 8 min read

Gmail is ending POP fetching and third-party Send mail as. Add your own address to the Gmail app over IMAP instead, with the server settings you need.

To use your own email address in Gmail, add it to the Gmail app on your phone or tablet as an IMAP account with ljpc.email as the server. You then read and send mail from your own address, with the same folders on every device. Gmail on the web no longer lets new users fetch mail from other accounts over POP, and in January 2027 Google also ends existing POP fetching and Send mail as for addresses from other providers. If you still want your business mail in Gmail on your computer, forward it from Plesk.

What is changing in Gmail?

Google is winding down the links between Gmail and mail accounts from other providers. That includes a business address on your own domain, such as info@yourcompany.com. According to Google, this is what changes:

Gmail featureWhat changesWhat you can do instead
Check mail from other accounts (POP fetching, on the web)Not available to new users after the first quarter of 2026; existing users can keep it until January 2027Forward your mail from Plesk, or use the Gmail app
Send mail as (sending from another provider's address)No longer supported from January 2027; Gmail addresses and Google Workspace aliases keep workingSend from the Gmail app, webmail or your email program
Adding an account in the Gmail app (IMAP)Keeps working on Android, iPhone and iPadThe route we recommend
One-time import on the webStill availableOnly for old mail: new messages are not synced

Gmailify is ending as well. It added Gmail features such as spam protection and inbox categories to accounts from other providers. Mail that Gmail has already fetched stays in Gmail. Google explains the details in changes to Gmailify and POP support and send emails from a different address or alias.

Add your email address to the Gmail app

In the Gmail app on Android, iPhone and iPad you add your address as an IMAP account. The app then works directly with your mailbox on our servers: what you read, move or delete also shows up in webmail and on your other devices. It works the same way on a tablet.

  1. Open the Gmail app and tap your profile picture in the top right.
  2. Tap Add another account.
  3. On an iPhone or iPad, choose Other (IMAP). On Android, choose Other.
  4. Enter your full email address and tap Next. On Android, then choose Personal (IMAP).
  5. Enter the password of your email address. This is your mailbox password, not your customer portal password.
  6. For the incoming server, enter ljpc.email with port 993 and SSL/TLS. For the outgoing server, also enter ljpc.email, with port 465 and SSL/TLS or port 587 and STARTTLS. Your username is always your full email address.
  7. Follow the last steps on screen. You can then switch between your Gmail address and your business address by tapping your profile picture.

For instructions per device, including the email profile for iPhone and iPad and the steps for Outlook, Apple Mail and Thunderbird, see set up your email on your phone, tablet and computer. On Android, every step, the messages you may see along the way and how to set up swipe actions are in how to add your email to the Gmail app on Android.

Gmail on the web: forward instead of fetch

If you want to read your business mail in Gmail in your browser, Google recommends automatic forwarding. With LJPc hosting you set this up yourself in Plesk: open the Forwarding tab of your email address, switch on forwarding and enter your Gmail address. The full steps are in set up email forwarding and aliases. You open Plesk with one click from the customer portal, as described in open Plesk from the customer portal.

Keep three things in mind when you forward:

  • A copy stays with us. By default, a copy of every message stays in your mailbox on our servers. That gives you a backup and lets you see everything in webmail. These copies do count towards the storage of your hosting plan.
  • Replies come from your Gmail address. When you reply from Gmail on the web, the recipient sees your Gmail address. To reply from your business address, use the Gmail app, LJPc webmail at ljpc.email or your email program.
  • Everything is forwarded. Forwarding passes on everything that arrives, so sometimes spam too. Forwarded messages can therefore end up in Gmail's Spam folder; check it now and then.

Already using Check mail from other accounts?

If you linked your address to Gmail on the web before, it keeps working until January 2027. This is how you keep it running until then and switch in time:

  • Changed your password? Update it in Gmail too. Click Settings (the gear icon) in the top right, then See all settings, and open the Accounts and Import tab. Update the password under Check mail from other accounts and under Send mail as.
  • The right values. For fetching: POP server ljpc.email, port 995, with a secure connection (SSL). For sending: SMTP server ljpc.email, port 465 with SSL or port 587 with TLS. Your username is your full email address.
  • Switch before January 2027. Turn on forwarding in Plesk or add your address to the Gmail app. Then remove the old account under Check mail from other accounts in Gmail, so you do not receive messages twice.
  • After the shutdown. New mail stays in your mailbox with us, ready to read in webmail or in an app. If Gmail did not leave a copy on the server when fetching, your older messages are only in Gmail.

Gmail server settings: which ones do you need?

Looking for Gmail server settings? You may mean one of two things: setting up your LJPc hosting address in Gmail, or setting up your Gmail address in another email program. Here are both:

SettingYour LJPc hosting addressYour Gmail address in another program
Incoming server (IMAP)ljpc.email, port 993, SSL/TLSimap.gmail.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
Incoming server (POP3)ljpc.email, port 995, SSL/TLSpop.gmail.com, port 995, SSL/TLS
Outgoing server (SMTP)ljpc.email, port 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS)smtp.gmail.com, port 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS)
Usernameyour full email addressyour full Gmail address
Sign-inthe password of your email addressSign in with Google

IMAP has been permanently on in Gmail since March 2025, so there is nothing to enable. In another email program you sign in to a Gmail address with Sign in with Google; typing your Google password into the program no longer works. If the program has no Sign in with Google option, you can use an app password with 2-Step Verification, although Google advises against it. Google lists its server details in its IMAP, POP and SMTP documentation. Choosing between IMAP and POP3 for your address with us? See set up your email on your phone, tablet and computer: we recommend IMAP.

Mail from your domain not arriving in Gmail?

If a message from your own domain does not reach a Gmail address, first check the recipient's Spam folder. Gmail uses SPF, DKIM and DMARC to check that a message really comes from your domain. If you host with us and your domain uses our nameservers, these three records are set up for you by default. If your DNS is managed elsewhere, make sure your SPF record contains include:_spf.ljpc.network; what is an SPF record explains how. For other causes and fixes, see how to fix email problems.

What LJPc hosting takes care of

  • Mailboxes on your own domain, with webmail at ljpc.email and IMAP for all your devices, including the Gmail app.
  • You change your password yourself in the customer portal: choose Services, Sites, your site and click the key icon next to your address.
  • You set up forwarding, aliases and a catch-all yourself in Plesk, whenever you need them.

Frequently asked questions

Can Gmail still check mail from other accounts?

Not for new users on the web: Check mail from other accounts (POP fetching) is no longer available to new users after the first quarter of 2026, and existing users can keep it until January 2027. Add your address to the Gmail app instead, or forward your mail.

Is Gmail removing Send mail as?

For addresses from other providers, yes. Google says Send mail as stops supporting third-party addresses from January 2027. Gmail addresses and Google Workspace aliases keep working. In the Gmail app you can still send from an IMAP account.

What server settings do I use for my LJPc email address in Gmail?

Incoming server ljpc.email, port 993 with SSL/TLS (IMAP). Outgoing server ljpc.email, port 465 with SSL/TLS or 587 with STARTTLS. Your username is your full email address and the password is the password of that address.

What are the Gmail IMAP and SMTP server settings?

For a Gmail address in another email program: IMAP imap.gmail.com on port 993, POP pop.gmail.com on port 995 and SMTP smtp.gmail.com on port 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS). You sign in with Sign in with Google.

What happens to my email when Gmail stops fetching it?

Messages Gmail has already fetched stay in Gmail. New mail stays in your mailbox with LJPc hosting, where you can read it in webmail at ljpc.email or in an app. Set up forwarding or the Gmail app in time so you miss nothing.
