How to set up (and remove) an email account in Outlook
Published on November 4, 2026 11 min read
Add your email to new Outlook, classic Outlook, Outlook for Mac or the Outlook app with the right IMAP settings, and remove an account again.
To set up an email address hosted with LJPc in Outlook, choose Add account, enter your full email address and the password of that mailbox, and Outlook usually finds the settings by itself. If Outlook asks for server details, pick IMAP and use ljpc.email as both the incoming and the outgoing server (port 993 and 465, both SSL/TLS), with your full email address as the username. You remove an account in the same account settings, and with IMAP your mail stays on the server afterwards.
Which Outlook do you have?
Microsoft ships several versions of Outlook and the buttons differ between them. Here is how to tell which one you are using:
| Version | How to recognise it | Where to add an account |
|---|---|---|
| New Outlook for Windows | A settings gear in the top right corner | View > View settings > Accounts |
| Classic Outlook for Windows, for example from Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 | No gear in the top right, and a Send / Receive tab in the ribbon | File > Add Account |
| Outlook for Mac | The Outlook application on your Mac | Outlook > Settings > Accounts |
| Outlook app on iPhone, iPad or Android | The Outlook app from the App Store or Google Play | Settings in the app > Add Account |
Were you using the Mail app on Windows? Microsoft retired it on 31 December 2024, so it can no longer send or receive email. The new Outlook is its replacement: add your address there with the steps below. Not sure which version you have? Microsoft explains it in what version of Outlook do I have?
Add your email to the new Outlook for Windows
- Open Outlook and on the View tab select View settings. Clicking the gear in the top right does the same.
- Select Accounts and, under Email accounts, click Add account.
- Enter your full email address, for example name@yourcompany.com, and click Continue.
- Enter the password of your email address. This is the password of your mailbox, not the one for the customer portal.
- If Outlook asks what type of account it is, pick IMAP and enter the servers from the settings table further down this article.
- Follow the remaining prompts and click Done. Your address now appears in the folder list on the left.
Microsoft describes the same flow in add an email account to Outlook for Windows.
Add your email to classic Outlook (IMAP setup)
Classic Outlook for Windows is not going away yet: Microsoft supports it until at least 2029. Most of the time your address and password are all it needs:
- Click File and then Add Account.
- Enter your email address and click Connect.
- Enter the password of your mailbox, click OK and then Finish.
Want to choose IMAP yourself, or does Outlook not find the settings? Then set the account up manually:
- Click File and then Add Account.
- Enter your email address, click Advanced options, tick Let me set up my account manually and click Connect.
- Choose IMAP.
- Under Incoming mail, enter the server ljpc.email with port 993 and encryption method SSL/TLS.
- Under Outgoing mail, enter the server ljpc.email with port 465 and SSL/TLS. Port 587 with STARTTLS works as well.
- Leave Secure Password Authentication (SPA) unticked and click Next.
- Enter the password of your mailbox and click Connect.
Need to change the server name, port or password of an account that is already there? Click File, pick the account under Account Information, click Account Settings and then Server Settings.
Add your email to Outlook for Mac
- Open Outlook and choose Outlook > Settings in the menu bar.
- Click Accounts and then + Add Account. If Outlook already has accounts, you also reach this list through Tools > Accounts.
- Enter your email address and click Continue.
- Enter the password of your mailbox. If Outlook asks for server details, choose IMAP and use the settings in the table below.
- Click Done.
Add your email to the Outlook app on iPhone, iPad and Android
- Open the Outlook app, tap your profile picture in the top left and then the gear to open the settings.
- Tap Add Account and choose Add Email Account.
- Enter your full email address and continue.
- If the app asks for your email provider, choose IMAP.
- Enter the password of your mailbox and turn on Use Advanced Settings (on Android: Advanced settings).
- Enter ljpc.email as both the incoming (IMAP) and the outgoing (SMTP) server, with your full email address as the username. If the app asks for a port, use 993 for incoming and 465 for outgoing.
- Tap Sign In, or the checkmark on Android.
Worth knowing: with an IMAP account the Outlook app only syncs your email, not your calendar or contacts. Microsoft also says that IMAP accounts in the Outlook app and in the current Outlook for Mac sync through the Microsoft cloud, which means a copy of your email is kept in Microsoft data centres. If you prefer your mail to travel straight between your device and our server, use webmail, or on an iPhone the Apple Mail app with our email profile, as described in set up your email on your phone, tablet and computer.
Outlook IMAP and SMTP settings at a glance
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Account type | IMAP (recommended) or POP3 |
| Incoming server (IMAP) | ljpc.email, port 993, SSL/TLS |
| Incoming server (POP3) | ljpc.email, port 995, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing server (SMTP) | ljpc.email, port 465 with SSL/TLS or port 587 with STARTTLS |
| Username | your full email address |
| Password | the password of your email address |
| Outgoing server authentication | same as incoming (password), SPA off |
Always use ljpc.email as the server, even if Outlook suggests a name such as mail.yourdomain.com. With IMAP you see the same mail and folders in Outlook, in webmail and on your phone. Most domains that use our nameservers already publish the records for automatic setup (autodiscover), so Outlook often fills in these values by itself and you only need the table for a manual setup.
How to remove an email account from Outlook
Removing an account from Outlook only takes it out of that program or app. Your email address keeps working on your other devices. Pick your version below.
New Outlook for Windows
- On the View tab, select View settings and then Accounts.
- Under Email accounts, click Manage next to the account.
- Click Remove. For an address that is not a Microsoft account, such as your LJPc address, you then choose whether to remove it from this device only or from all devices.
Classic Outlook for Windows
- Click File, then Account Settings and in the menu Account Settings again.
- Select the account and click Remove.
- Outlook warns that the offline content of this account will be deleted from your computer. Click Yes.
If it is the only account in Outlook, Outlook first asks you to create a new location for your data. Microsoft covers that in remove or delete an email account from classic Outlook.
Outlook for Mac
- Choose Tools > Accounts.
- Select the account in the list.
- Click Manage, choose Remove Account and confirm with Continue.
In legacy Outlook for Mac you select the account, click the minus sign at the bottom of the window and then Sign Out.
Outlook app on iPhone, iPad or Android
- Open the settings of the Outlook app through your profile picture and the gear.
- Under Accounts, tap the email account you want to remove.
- Tap Remove Account and confirm.
Is the account in the Apple Mail app on your iPhone or iPad rather than in the Outlook app, for example an Outlook.com or Hotmail address? Then follow how to remove an email account from your iPhone or iPad, which also covers what to do when the delete button is missing.
What happens to your email
| What you do | What happens to your email |
|---|---|
| Remove the account from Outlook (IMAP) | Gone from Outlook on this device. Your mail stays on the server, in webmail and on your other devices. |
| Remove the account from Outlook (POP3) | Mail Outlook has already downloaded may only exist on this computer. Check in webmail what is on the server first. |
| Delete the email address at LJPc | The mailbox and all mail in it disappear from the server, on every device. |
Not sure your mail is on the server? Sign in at ljpc.email, as described in LJPc webmail. If all your messages are there, you can remove the account with peace of mind. To stop using the address altogether, delete it in the customer portal with the steps in create an email address in the customer portal.
Moving your email to another server
When you move your email address to LJPc hosting, only the server changes in Outlook. Copy your old mail to your new mailbox first, so everything is there after the switch. How to do that, with an email program or with a migration tool for several mailboxes, is explained in migrate email to a new server via IMAP.
Then update Outlook. In classic Outlook you change the server under Server Settings, as described above. In the new Outlook, Outlook for Mac and the Outlook app you remove the old account and add it again with the ljpc.email settings.
Outlook keeps asking for your password or cannot connect
- Test your password in webmail. If you can sign in at ljpc.email, your password is right and the problem is in the Outlook settings. If you cannot, set a new password in the customer portal, as described in set up your email on your phone, tablet and computer.
- Check the server and username. Use ljpc.email for incoming and outgoing mail with SSL/TLS, and your full email address as the username.
- Turn off SPA. If classic Outlook never asks for your password, untick Secure Password Authentication (SPA) in the IMAP settings.
- Changed your password? Enter the new one on every device. In classic Outlook you do that under Server Settings; if an app still fails, remove the account and add it again. A device that keeps trying the old password can get your IP address blocked for a while on our mail server. How that works and what to do is explained in what is Fail2ban.
- Is Outlook working offline? When Work Offline is on in classic Outlook, it does not fetch mail. Turn it off on the Send / Receive tab.
Mail arrives, but a message stays in your Outbox or lands in the recipient's spam folder? See how to fix email problems.
What LJPc hosting takes care of
If your domain uses our nameservers, the records for automatic setup are usually already in place, so Outlook finds your servers by itself. If your hosting is with us as well, SPF, DKIM and DMARC are set correctly by default, so receivers such as Outlook.com can verify that your mail really comes from your domain. How that signature works is explained in what is DKIM. You create new email addresses and change passwords yourself in the customer portal.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove an email account from Outlook?
In the new Outlook for Windows: View, View settings, Accounts, Manage next to the account and Remove. In classic Outlook: File, Account Settings, Account Settings, select the account and Remove. In Outlook for Mac: Tools, Accounts, Manage and Remove Account. In the Outlook app: Settings, the account under Accounts and Remove Account.
How do I remove an Outlook account from my iPhone?
If the account is in the Outlook app, open the app settings, tap the account under Accounts and tap Remove Account. If it is in the Apple Mail app, go to Settings, Apps, Mail, Mail Accounts, tap the account and choose Delete Account.
Will I lose my email if I remove an account from Outlook?
Not with IMAP: your mail stays on the server and you can still read it in webmail at ljpc.email and on your other devices. With POP3, downloaded mail may only exist on that computer, so check webmail before you remove the account.
What IMAP and SMTP settings do I use in Outlook?
Incoming server ljpc.email, port 993 with SSL/TLS (IMAP). Outgoing server ljpc.email, port 465 with SSL/TLS or 587 with STARTTLS. The username is your full email address, the password is the password of that address, and SPA is off.
Why does Outlook keep asking for my password?
Usually the password is wrong or has been changed. Test it in webmail at ljpc.email and set a new password in the customer portal if needed. Also check that the server is ljpc.email, the username is your full email address and SPA is off.
Can I still use classic Outlook?
Yes. Microsoft supports classic Outlook for Windows until at least 2029. The Windows Mail app has been retired, though: it stopped sending and receiving email at the end of 2024.
